Join us in February 2025 for a unique journey with the Karen Hilltribe people!
The Karen Hilltribes Trust’s (KHT) jungle trek is returning in February 2025, and we want to invite you to take part! Over 5 days, you will trek through the jungles of Mae Hong Son, visit Karen villages and witness the natural beauty of the region. Trekking 4-5 hours a day and then relaxing by a campfire at night, the Jungle Trek offers you the unique opportunity to experience a glimpse into the traditional Karen way of life whilst witnessing first-hand the impact of KHT’s projects in the region!
When is the trek?
The Jungle Trek will take place on the 7th- 13th of February 2025.
Trekkers will arrive on the 7th and depart by the 13th, with 5 days of trekking in between. You can arrive and depart in Chiang Mai or Mae Hong Son, where KHT will pick you up and drop you off!
Where will we trek?
The trek will be guided by KHT’s team and will pass through untouched forest and remote Karen communities, along the Mae Khi border area. The route itself will involve climbing hills, past upland rice fields, and traversing forest paths. At the end of each day, you will then conclude the days trekking with a candlelit dinner, before camping each evening under the stars, either within the forest or close to a Karen village.
How much will is cost?
The total cost of the trek is 80,000THB (approx. £1720). This includes both the fees for participating and a donation to KHT to support our vital work. Once you register interest, you will be asked to make a deposit of 30,000THB (£645) and the rest of the costs will need to be made before beginning the trek.
What will I experience?
Our Karen staff will be with you every step of the way and your guides and will also prepare your camp and food. The experience will involve 4-5 hours of jungle trekking, and taking in the lush and natural beauty of northern Thailand. You will also be shown KHT’s projects on the ground and learn about the Karen way of life. This is a truly unique experience to see a side of Thailand rarely seen by people who live in urban areas. It is also an amazing experience to learn about Thailand’s largest ethnic minority that are too often ignored and marginalised.
How can I get involved?
